Safety Management Audit

The use of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) audits has grown in recent years. Auditing is now seen as an effective method for ensuring compliance and improving the performance of prevention systems.

A Safety Management audit is a comprehensive review of your health and safety management system. This is not merely a safety or loss control inspection

Whether you are interested in establishing a benchmark of your performance, or you are looking for a fresh pair of eyes to strengthen your current systems, this service is a highly valuable tool.

What is included in a safety management audit?

A safety management audit has a wider scope than a traditional safety inspection, and although addressing hazards and risk controls, it also looks at organizational structures, planning activities, responsibilities, implemented procedures, review cycles and measurement and evaluation issues.

A basic safety management system has some of the following characteristics...

  • Management commitment
  • Existence of a health and safety policy that is communicated to staff
  • Allocation of responsibilities and accountability for health and safety matters
  • Controls for suppliers, sub-contractors and purchasing
  • Health and safety consultation
  • Hazard identification, evaluation and control
  • Incident recording, investigation, analysis and review
  • Measuring and evaluating workplace health and safety performance
  • Provision of information and training of staff

Many organizations who truly want to improve their overall safe performance undertake these audits on a periodic basis to benchmark the performance and to plan for continuous improvement.

How can Safety Links help?

Our Non bias, non-governmental Safety Management Audit is a useful tool that can be used to benchmark and improve your internal safety management system. Whether you are interested in establishing a benchmark of your performance, or you are looking for a "fresh pair of eyes" to strengthen your current systems, this service is a highly valuable tool.

Our Safety Coaches are experienced safety auditors who will use an audit instrument that is approved for your industry.

What does the audit typical include?

During the audit we will review your documentation, conduct interviews with your staff and management, and will make general observations of your worksites to confirm implementation of your safety management system.

After the audit is completed you will receive a comprehensive report with recommendations for continuous improvement.

Does this prepare us for an OSHA VPP, SHARPS or OSHAS 18000 audit?

Absolutely! We can use our proprietary audit tool to prepare you for the OSHA VPP or SHARPS certification process or we can actually use the VPP or SHARPS audit protocols. The outcome goal of any Safety Management Audit is a functional Safety Management system. Which tool you use to measure that functionality is not really that important.

Can your auditors use our internal/ corporate audit protocol document?

We do this all the time. We can either use your existing audit document to measure your safety management system or we can help you develop an audit document based on your corporate requirements.
