Off Road Forklift (Telehandler) Operator

Course Introduction

This interactive session is designed to teach operators the unique operating requirements of a telehandler or boom style forklift. This course meets the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178 requirements for powered industrial truck operator training.

In addition to providing the "classroom" training in the first portion of this course, each operator will receive a "hands-on" demonstration and an evaluation of their skills.

Course Details

Topics to be covered during this class are:

  • a review of the revised OSHA forklift standard
  • pre shift inspections
  • parts of a telehandler
  • telehandler controls
  • unique lifting principles
  • safe operation methods of telehandlers

Who Requires Telehandler Forklift Training?

  • OSHA requires any employer utilizing a telehandler forklift to train and evaluate all operators, and to ensure that each operator is competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely.
  • An employer must "certify" that each operator has received the required training and evaluation in compliance with OSHA training and certification regulations.

How does the hands-on training work?

  • We train and evaluate your operators on your equipment at your site.
  • For new operators we typically find an open area to practice their driving skills. Once that is mastered we set up a series of work scenarios and have them practice.
  • For experienced operators we typically observe them doing their actual work. This allows us to truly evaluate their skill and abilities and offer very specific corrective actions if necessary.
