Utility Worker Traffic Control

Course Introduction

The target audience for this course is Utility Companies such as: Telephone and Cable, Power distribution, Water and Sewer, Gas distribution, etc…

  • This course will teach participants how to create safe work zones near public roads and highways and in areas that you would normally find utility right of ways.
  • This course is designed to fulfill the safety need of utility companies who chose not to take the full FDOT MOT course options including the Intermediate (16-hour) course and Advanced (20-hour) course.
  • This course is designed to provide flagger training for utility company employees.
  • This course is designed to take the place of the discontinued FDOT MOT “Restricted” Course.

Note: The FDOT discontinued the restricted course on July 15, 2014. The Restricted Activities course was required for everyone who had the direct responsibility for placement of work zone traffic control devices in the utility industry only. Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Training for those performing utility operations is no longer overseen by the Department of Transportation. The Utility Accommodation Manual addresses the requirements for utilities in regards to training.  Training is required; however, how utility employees are trained is determined by the utility itself. Utility employees performing TTC operations may choose to take an Intermediate or Advanced course but this is not required.
